A vertical cut in my mind would be with the grain and considered "ripping." A horizontal cut, against the grain, is how they want to cut it. It seems like I have vertical and horzontal mixed up -LOL. The big #1 rule for the program though is that the products you request are yours, and yours alone.

Also, with a large variety of wood types at all of their stores, it is usually not a problem when trying to find a certain grain or style. If your woodworking project is small or you just need the tool once, you can opt to rent the equipment instead.
